The Eco Club at Ysgol Dewi Sant is an important aspect of community life at the school as the club works closely with the wider community of St David’s and beyond.
The Club was founded by Mrs Pat Barclay and is today run by Miss Tiffany Nicholls and a student committee. We are also helped by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
In the past we have won many grants and competitions to enable us to plant trees and improve garden areas which have included the Oriel-Y-Parc garden and the school garden areas.
The Eco Club is now in the process of achieving its Eco-Schools Green Flag Award and looking at working with other award schemes to help improve the school’s environmental status.
The next project for the Eco Club is to help start up one big community Eco Club where we intend to work with The St. David’s Community Orchard, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, St. David’s City Council and local farmers and organisations in the peninsula. This project will benefit the school greatly with the potential to build a new school garden with fresh fruit and vegetables available to all students and staff and fruit trees around the school playing fields for students to help themselves to fruit during break times.
This is a great opportunity for all students in the school as it not only provides extra-curricular educational activities but it can also help students to meet new friends who share in the same interests as themselves.
